Katherine Jean (Kay) Paul (nee Roy) passed away on June 11th in Elliot Lake, Ontario after lengthy residences at Hillside Park and St. Joseph’s Manor long-term care facilities where she received excellent care. She was 95 years old, born on November 23rd, 1930, in Port Colborne, Ontario. Eldest daughter of George (Harry) and Susie Roy, she was predeceased by husband Donald Clayton Paul (1932 to 2014) and brother Jack McNaughton Roy. Kay is survived by her son Scott Alan Paul, his wife Loretta; grandson, David Paul, wife Laurel Gunning, and great grandsons, Jack, Benjamin, and Mason; granddaughter Katie, husband Steve Blanchette, and great granddaughters, Eva and Annie; and by her son Douglas Roy Paul, his wife Susan, grandson Erik, wife Kristyn, and great grandson Grayson; and grandson Kevin, wife Alissa, and by Erik and Kevin’s mother, Penny Watt. She also is survived by her younger sister Alice Peltomaki, daughter Tammi and her 3 children, close cousin Sue Ann Luck (nee Wallace), and sister-in-law, Phyllis Roy.
Kay moved to Sudbury as a child and called it home for most of her life. Kay and Don had an adventurous life living in Germany on a Canadian Airforce base from 1965 to 1967 and travelling extensively throughout Europe, making good friends wherever they went. Kay will always be remembered for her welcoming spirit and beautiful smile that could brighten any room. She was always ready to entertain, gladly opening her home to family and friends, and her warmth and hospitality have created countless cherished memories. Kay was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother and she took immense pride in watching her family grow and thrive.
Prior to her condition deteriorating, she requested no funeral or memorial service but only to be interred by family next to her loving husband of 60 years at Park Lawn Cemetery in Sudbury. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada would be appreciated.
