Ten Broek, Edo Hans
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Edo Hans Ten Broek at St. Joseph’s General Hospital in Elliot Lake on Sunday December 14, 2025 at the age of 88.
Born in Recife, Brazil on February 18, 1937, son of Johannes Benjamin Ten Broek and Suzana Katrina Wessing of Holland. His father managed a Dutch sugar refinery which eventually closed. In 1943, they moved to Mexico City and his father directed an International Quinine Research Institute and in 1947, was asked by the Dutch government to join their Embassy. He died unexpectedly in April 1962, just prior to becoming an Ambassador. Edo attended the Mexico City primary school until age 11, when his father made a significant decision to send him to Trinity College School in Port Hope, Ontario, which entirely changed his future life and citizenship.
After TCS, Edo graduated from Queen’s University with an Hon. BA, worked briefly with the Ontario Government (Department of Economics) and Philips Electronics, before enrolling at the University of Toronto, MBA program. He graduated in 1965 and began his lifetime career in Human Resources with a Senior Executive position with the British Hawker Siddeley group, followed by Massey-Ferguson Ltd., Alcan Aluminum, The In Lacks Group (India) and Accord Executive Search. During his life, he lived in 8 different countries, visited and did business in 43 others and spoke 6 languages. He leaves behind a former spouse, daughter Stephania and granddaughter Madison Victoria.
In particular, especially Dorothy Lee who he had the fortune to meet in Elliot Lake and has been his partner for many years, providing love, support, patience, understanding, especially during the last years of his life, when a series of health issues arose. During his 20+ years in Elliot Lake, he participated in a number of volunteer activities, such as the Library, Museum, ELNOS, AWIC., ARIEL Boards and was the co-founder of the Elliot Lake Historical Society. He also received the Elliot Lake Civic Award.
Edo enjoyed good music, good wine, good food and was an excellent Chef.
As per his wishes, cremation has taken place.
