Charles (Charlie) Herbert Smallwood

SMALLWOOD, Charles Herbert It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Charles (Charlie) Herbert Smallwood at Health Sciences North in Sudbury on Friday February 28, 2025 at the age of 87. Charlie was born and grew up in Fredericton, New Brunswick, studying geology at the University of New Brunswick. He lived in Elliot Lake, Ontario for much of his life, working for decades as a geologist for Rio Algom. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 65 years Margaret Rose Smallwood (nee Wright), his parents Dewar and Clara Smallwood, and his siblings: Joan, Mary-Jean and Fenton. Loving father of Greg Smallwood (Susan) of Ottawa and of (the late) Randy Smallwood (Valerie) of London. Dear grandfather of Chelsea (Mehrtash), Megan, Bryden (Sofia), Jeffrey (Lindsay), Christopher (Heather), Jessica (Marco) and great-grandfather of Madison, Owen, Benjamin, and Carson. He is also survived by numerous nieces & nephews. As per his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the Hampton Inn Maple Room on Saturday May 3, 2025 at 11 am, with the Rev. Cory Vermeer-Cuthbert officiating. Inurnment later that day in Woodlands Cemetery, Elliot Lake. Memorial contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society (www.cancer.ca) would be appreciated by the family.
