Fortchimo, Edith Eleanor (nee Morin)

Edith Fortchimo, 75, passed away quietly surrounded by her family on March 3, 2024 at Saint Joseph's General Hospital in Elliot Lake. Born on July 18, 1948 in Haileybury, Edith lived a full and vibrant life from beginning to end, and touched the lives of many people along the way. Growing up in Cobalt and Elliot Lake, Edith met her future husband and they lived in Chisasibi, Quebec, most of her adult life. She happily became an active member of the community working in the school system and social services over the years. Edith was a foster mom to several children in the community. She returned to Elliot Lake in 2020 and enjoyed reuniting with her family. Edith is predeceased by her husband Sidney Fortchimo her parents René (Ben) and Edna Morin. Also predeceased by her brothers Kenneth (Carol), Allan (late Jacinta), and Robert. Edith is survived by her beloved sons Mario (Virginia) and David as well as sisters Sarah(Sal) (Ron Williams), Nancy (late Ron Milne), Mary (Bruce McNeely), Lois (Paul Nolan) and sister-in-law Carol Morin as well as several grandchildren, a great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.

A cremation has taken place and memorial service will be held for Edith on Saturday, March 23rd at the Gentle Shepherd Church at 11:00am with a lunch to follow.

In lieu of flowers a non perishable food donation to Gentle Shepherd Church in Edith's memory would be greatly appreciated. Donations are distributed to local food banks and meal programs for those in need.
